Subject Nine Retrospective

Subject Nine is my first ever completely finished written work. It is 152 pages long (very short and sweet) and it took only 9 days to write. Yes, I’m aware of the coincidence.

I wrote it throughout the summer of 2025, when I had been dealing with a lot of personal hardships and difficulties that just never seemed to leave me alone. In spite of this, I committed time day and night to follow through with the project. In my manic state, I completed it in a very short timespan.

Is it my most perfect work? Not by a long shot. But it is my first finished work. And my first physical book that I’ve gotten printed.

I don’t know if I plan on publishing this thing at all. But for now, it lives on my site for anyone to read for free. And I’m proud of how it turned out.

Nine is a pretty cool character, to me. He’s a former soldier that got swept up into batshit chaos that changed his life for the rest of the foreseeable future. He’s scared, he’s angry, he gets frustrated with his circumstances. But ultimately he adapts. Because that’s what he’s always done.

Amelia is very dear to me as well. A kid way in over her head, being swept up into similar circumstances as Nine was. Who knows… I might even write about her more in a different project.

Overall, it was a great project for me to spend time and focus on. I had fun, and I think that’s all that matters.

The Runner is currently in development. I hope to finish it by the end of October 2026.

Let’s hope I can make that deadline.
